Book Review : The Last Storm by J.D. Linton

Genre: Romance, fantasy, romantasy

Blurb: Ara Starrin’s entire life has been a lie.

Hidden in the shadow of her controlling father, General Evander of Auryna, Ara has never tasted true freedom. For most of her life, she’s been locked away in his estate as he is determined to protect her from the bloodthirsty Fae across the border.

But as her twenty-sixth birthday comes and goes, he decides it's time for her to marry, against her wishes and completely unbeknownst to her.

Ara’s fate is sealed the moment he announces her engagement.

Rogue Draki’s entire life has been a painful truth.

Raised at the hands of his father, the merciless king of Ravaryn, Rogue has never tasted an ounce of kindness. Now that his father is dead, the crown has been thrust upon him, and it is his responsibility to save his people from the wrath of Auryna.

It is for that reason he crosses the border into Auryna to spy on the court in the Capitol—for secrets, leverage, anything.

Rogue’s fate is sealed the moment he lays eyes on Ara Starrin.

Review:

Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)

Tropes: enemies to lovers, fae, dragon shifter, fated lovers, mates

I recently had the pleasure of diving into an amazing book that captivated my heart from the very first page and astonishingly this was a debut novel by this author .

Having my favorite tropes, the book charmed me and Rogue is one hell of a lover/mate. Their banter and progress was sexy at best.

What truly impressed me about this book were the myriad of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. I prided myself on my ability to anticipate the twists, but the author masterfully managed to surprise me, saving the most shocking revelation for the very end. It was a delightful surprise that left me longing for more.

The steam level was also 5/5 without being over the top and cheesy.
The side characters had a depth of their own and all had a story and something to offer to the story.

The cliffhanger ending left me yearning for the next book in the series, has left me eagerly anticipating the next installment.

Happy reading!

Toxic workplace

In the land of shadows, where secrets reside,
Toxicity surrounds, where darkness presides.
Jealousy and insecurity, their venomous embrace,
Bound in misery, trapped in this wretched space.
Colleagues masked in false loyalty, their hearts astray,
Yet I, the femme fatale, shall find my way.

Today I share my toxic workplace frustrations, being surrounded by a darkness that permeates the very air I breathe. It is a place where jealousy and insecurity persist, poisoning the interwork relationships.

Over the period of 5 years, I have witnessed the masks of false loyalty worn by those around me. Colleagues who feign support while their hearts remain astray. It is in this environment of deceit where I have to learn the art of resilience. For every betrayal I've endured, I have grown stronger, but after suffering a lot of pain.

As the strong person though , I refuse to succumb to the darkness that seeks to envelope me. I refuse to be defined by the toxicity that surrounds me, but rather choose to embrace my own worth, recognizing that my value does not hinge on the opinions or actions of others. I will not be confined by the limitations imposed upon me.

Welcome

Greetings readers,
Dealing with life is hard, as I face my daily challenges, the hardships started to affect my mental health gravely. And this time a generous friend's pep talk lightened a bulb in my mind. They say do what makes you happy and writing and sharing my thoughts and ideas is my way of happiness. So from this day, I shall write, write what I feel, what I want to preach, and what I believe.
