Book Review : The Last Storm by J.D. Linton

Genre: Romance, fantasy, romantasy

Blurb: Ara Starrin’s entire life has been a lie.

Hidden in the shadow of her controlling father, General Evander of Auryna, Ara has never tasted true freedom. For most of her life, she’s been locked away in his estate as he is determined to protect her from the bloodthirsty Fae across the border.

But as her twenty-sixth birthday comes and goes, he decides it's time for her to marry, against her wishes and completely unbeknownst to her.

Ara’s fate is sealed the moment he announces her engagement.

Rogue Draki’s entire life has been a painful truth.

Raised at the hands of his father, the merciless king of Ravaryn, Rogue has never tasted an ounce of kindness. Now that his father is dead, the crown has been thrust upon him, and it is his responsibility to save his people from the wrath of Auryna.

It is for that reason he crosses the border into Auryna to spy on the court in the Capitol—for secrets, leverage, anything.

Rogue’s fate is sealed the moment he lays eyes on Ara Starrin.

Review:

Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)

Tropes: enemies to lovers, fae, dragon shifter, fated lovers, mates

I recently had the pleasure of diving into an amazing book that captivated my heart from the very first page and astonishingly this was a debut novel by this author .

Having my favorite tropes, the book charmed me and Rogue is one hell of a lover/mate. Their banter and progress was sexy at best.

What truly impressed me about this book were the myriad of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. I prided myself on my ability to anticipate the twists, but the author masterfully managed to surprise me, saving the most shocking revelation for the very end. It was a delightful surprise that left me longing for more.

The steam level was also 5/5 without being over the top and cheesy.
The side characters had a depth of their own and all had a story and something to offer to the story.

The cliffhanger ending left me yearning for the next book in the series, has left me eagerly anticipating the next installment.

Happy reading!
